I tried the following: Code: pdbedit -Lw in terminal, but it returns an error: Code: ~$ pdbedit -Lw tdbsam_open: Failed to open/create TDB passwd [/var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb] tdbsam_getsampwnam: failed to open /var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb! The funny thing is it asks to create a user account on this Linux system that matches the user account used to gain access to network on the Win98 system. Isn't it strange the onset of overheating will result in freezing?

If I kill and restart smbd then everyone is OK. A local user trying to mount them produced some sort of error. So you'd run mkdir /var/lib/samba/private and then add your user again. Gave this command: # cat /etc/passwd | /usr/bin/mksmbpasswd.sh > /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd # pico /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd and removed all entries except Fahrenheit451. http://cleantechinnvest.com/unable-to/unable-to-open-passdb.html Samba then created a passdb.tdb file.

The time now is 10:29 PM. It asks for "Connect As:" and "Password", but no combinations work, and we see the above error in the log. it means Samba is not set to accept anonymous users, (Which is usually good). But with security = domain, why is Samba trying to access a password file at all?
I used the same smb.conf file that was used with 3.6.22. Where is this information saved? this link shows you how to modify Win98 for just that...
