Even tried the new zaptel drivers announced today.

Thanks again! If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link: ztirffritz - 2005-12-23 OK, I've searched the forums about shared IRQs. I can compile zaptel, libpri, asterisk and modprobe (zaptel, wcfxs, wcfxo) without errors. I had left by mistake the defs26 USE flag enabled at /etc/portage/package.use, oops!
Make the following changes. Make the following changes. I would tend to align with the "it followed a yum update" in terms to what caused this. Alternately, it could be that /sbin/ztcfg assumes that the devices are available immediately, which they are not on a udev system like Fedora Core 3 (and others).

As Scott mentions above, the group must be a system group. Just installed Asterisk 1.4 and Zaptel1.4 and libpri, but when I run ztcfg I get this error: line 0: Unable toopen master device '/dev/zap/ctl'This is a generic error message ztcfg gives later down the \ line.
