They are both on the same network and both starts with 192.168.x.xxx. It's a very small difference.Boot the CD and then retry the ping. The gateway is also DHCP relaying and the DHCP server is set to try 1 ping before assigning an address (to avoid conflicts). @AndrewS174: since this is happening randomly in multiple IP.
