Or even just reinstall Ubuntu 12.04... Logically, I'm sure that is true. I got an error, I looked inside my system-config-samba and all the user names were deleted? It amazes me that it can be so fragile that you need to feel sceptic every time there is a package update notification...
Did you mean the samba package itself? /var/cache/samba doesn't come from samba it comes from samba-common.
