Right Click to Your aspnetdb.mdf go to properties > then Security Tab and then give full rights to your user account if you did not found you user account then click navigate here I did not need to add my user account to the permissions list of the MDF and LDF files!, the Network Service (under which SQL Server operates) was enough. I was getting the same "Unable to open physical file..." message while trying to attach a database. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. This is a fact EVEN THOUGH my current logged in user is in the "(local)/Administrators" group and the "(local)/Administrators" group already has full file control permissions of that directory. Cannot attach the file 'C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Project\MIS\MIS\MIS\MusicalInstrumentalStore.UI\MusicalInstrumentalStore.UI\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf' as database 'Adventure'.
