You can read my previous post on how to format an external hard drive using FAT32. I plugged it into my friends computer and it had no problems.

Now, when I connect the external HD to my Macbook, Time Machine has disappeared along with all of our backed up files. it had been disabled "due to interference". the flash disk is really old and cheap. Haven't tried it yet but it may also be possible to include the external drive as a device added to a network or homegroup. Today I tried to plug it into my work PC to get some files off it (Windows 8), and it wasn't recognized. I need this stick to work PS i do use all the USB ports on the PC with other devices no probs but the USB stick is recognised but does nothing, doesn't show

They haven't worked since I updated to Windows 10. I am about to have a heart attack if I've lost all of my data! Open Computer Management by launching Windows Explorer, Right-Clicking on My Computer, and selecting the "Manage" options 2. The Device Manager sees the adapter, but not the drive.
