I had the same issue with an XP PRO SP2 system. I Have tried disconnecting all machines from the domain and reconnecting them and get the same error. Now, on to the issue at hand: The fact your XP machine cannot ping itself, either by name OR by IP address makes me suspicious. They should make that an option duing Setup.
